Roses Gabor - Stars

 Roses Gabor was one of the three feminine voices on SBTRKT's track "Pharaohs".  She was also the female voice on Gorillaz "Dare", way back. Her debut single, "Stars", is a great first spotlight to recognize her own place in the music world. It's produced by Redlight and released on Toddla T's label, Girls Music, and Ninja Tune.

It has a club like dubstep rhythm with twisted vocals and a beautiful chorus~

SBTRKT

SBTRKT (pronounced subtract) is a dj from London who supports the concept of anonymity. The name SBTRKT is the artist way to take himself out of the picture and let his music speak for itself. On stage he wears a modern interpretations of native society ceremonial masks designed by Hidden Place, to further support his anonymity.

The experimental producer Flying Lotus also goes by the name Captain Murphy as a rapper, he kept his identity a secret for 5 months until he performed live. In July the track"Between Friends" was released, a collaboration with producer Flying Lotus, Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt, and the unknown rapper at the time, Captain Murphy. Tyler the Creator who toyed with the blogosphere before seemed like a good guess. The most common vocal filter they used for Captain Murphy sounds almost exactly like Tyler's voice.

About two weeks ago Captain Murphy released a 35 minute mixtape called Duality, which feature big names like TNGHT, Flying Lotus, Madlib, and Just Blaze.

When Captain Murphy performed his first show at the Low End Theory party in Los Angelos on November 28th, he revealed himself as FlyLo wearing a shimmery gold cape.

The rapper, RiFF RaFF, currently with Mad Decent record label is quite the character. You either appreciate his humor or hate him. He was raised and born in north side of Houston, which explains his thick accent. On his chest, neck, and arm he tattooed MTV, BET, Bart Simpson, and Seagram's Seven. To complete his advertisement look he will often bring out his red rubby laced Icee chain that hangs off of his neck. When watching his music videos, its hard to look away from him. He has those crazy eyes.

 RiFF RaFF comes up with lyrics that shine on his personality. He can make fun of himself and at the same time take himself seriously. He's a byproduct of the 21st century music industry today. He is for the open-minded adult swim generation that can see the fun of his music and not to take everything so seriously.

"He doesn't give a fuck about anything, which is my philosophy about everything. He's the best dude to drink with ever, and he can freestyle for seven weeks straight," Diplo, the producer of Mad Decent, says.

Alright... so this song, Thrift Shop, is a fun catchy tune that is making fun of hipster. But at the same time giving them credit for saving money and looking fresh. This is a very relatable song here at SUNY purchase as much as some "hipsters" don't want to hear that.

 Macklemore (Ben Haggerty) has been releasing music independently since 2000 without mainstream support. He has gained a huge online fan base through his well done music videos. "Thrift Shop" has been viewed on YouTube more than 15 million times

 It's one of those rainy muggy daze and I'm listening to the soothing sounds of Brazilian Girls. They are known for their eclectic blend of electronic dance music with diverse musical styles of tango, lounge, reggae, and house. They are actually not from Brazil, the band originated in New York City. They are the perfect band to lounge around, paint your nails, get ready, and basically have your girl time to~

I heard them in  an expensive department stores, its the kind of music I day dream to. It has the sex appeal and the relaxation vibes. Their music gets more vulgar and hilarious too

FlyLo short for Flying Lotus is one of my favorite experimental music producers. His genre of music changes from album to album but I would label him as ambient trip hop. His six tracks RESET EP are his core tracks, I have listened to this EP repeatedly through. In this EP, the third track Massage Situation is used as background music for the "Baggage Room" bump during Adult Swim. A lot of Flying Lotus songs have been used as background music during Adult Swim's interlude. One of my favorites that I no longer see on the air, is this cool animation video that is one of Adult Swim's bumps.

Very trippy~

What I would call a Flying Lotus classic track would be Do the Astral Plane. There are numerous remixed of this track I've heard from DJ's, it has a killer beat.

Flying Lotus concerts are one of the best shows I've been to. He has a lot of charm and his beats are very danceable. When I went to Electric Zoo in 2010, FlyLo stuck out the most to me because of his originality and smoothness.

For me, Trap music is the new dubstep.  The genre is not new but it has been making a new school comeback. It's a combination of pitched and re-sampled hiphop/rap vocals, gansta synth leads, 808 Roland drum machine, and pipe flutes. Over the past several months, trap music has been gaining popularity amongst some of the biggest DJs like Diplo, Rustie, and Dillon Francis making a strong impact on the electonic dance music world. My favorite trap artist is Flosstradamus, who I saw live over the summer at a free show in NYC

It's that ticking sound that drops over and over again to a combination of heavy hip hop beats, vocals, and drum sounds that makes it sound really hyped!

Flosstradamus is banned from playing in his hometown Chicago for starting a "Riot" in the crowd. He reacted by releasing a 30 minute mix titled Banned.

It's the beginning of a new semester and the artist my friends and I have been going nuts over on the weekends is Iggy Azalea. She is known for her songs "My World", "Pu$$y" and "Murda Bizness" whose music videos went viral on Youtube.

 

When I watch Iggy Azalea music videos I can't take my eyes off of her, she has this mesmerizing empowerment vibe. She is vulgar and chic at the same time. As a white rappers she automatically gets hated on but that does stop her from rhyming viciously and making it clear to all that she's a bad bitch. Her music gets me in that fierce pumped mentality while still having fun dancing to the hip hop electonic beats. She also dresses the trendy part!
